Extend Sleep with a Spring Cradle

The gentle rocking motion of a spring cradle reminds the baby of the time spent in the womb and satisfies their need for closeness, making them feel calm and secure.

Why a Baby Hammock Can Solve Sleep Struggles

Does your baby have sleep regression? Or is life with two children in need of extra support? Perhaps you’re looking for a safe place where your baby can rest while you have your hands free. Whether it’s sleep challenges, time constraints, or the need for a calming space, a baby hammock might be the solution.

A baby hammock is a cradle that hangs from a hook in the ceiling or a freestanding tripod stand. It’s designed to gently rock back and forth, mimicking the soothing movements your baby experienced in the womb. This calming motion can help your baby fall asleep more easily and sleep longer.

Benefits of a Baby Hammock

  • Improved Sleep

Provides babies with a more peaceful sleep by recreating the soothing motions of the womb.

  • Save time

Enables parents to focus on other tasks or enjoy a moment of rest while the baby sleeps safely.

  • Natural posture

Promotes healthy spine development by ensuring proper alignment during sleep.

Baby Hammock vs. Cradle

The main difference between the baby hammock and the cradle is the type of base. The shape of the baby hammock creates an enveloping environment, allowing the baby to feel embraced during sleep. The slightly curved position, which mimics the time in the womb, helps the baby relax and settle down.

If your baby doesn't feel comfortable in the shape of the hammock, the cradle is an excellent alternative. It has longer inner dimensions and a flat base, making it ideal for babies who prefer more space while they sleep or those who tend to get warm during sleep. The cradle is designed for babies who enjoy observing everything happening around them. However, its more open design can sometimes feel overwhelming for newborns, making the baby hammock a safer choice for the youngest.

Both types of cradles are powered by the same motor, providing a calming and soothing effect. Which type is the best fit depends primarily on the baby’s preferences. This is why it's so convenient to be able to rent and try out different options to find the spring cradle that works best for you.

Can my active baby sleep safely in a hammock?

Absolutely! With the Fixi Mattress from Moonboon, your baby can sleep both safely and comfortably. While it's completely normal for a baby to move around a lot in their sleep, it can sometimes disrupt their sleep patterns. The Fixi Mattress is equipped with a luxurious, soft, quilted support belt that gently keeps your baby in the center of the mattress. It can help your baby stay more still and give you the peace of mind that your baby is sleeping safely. The mattress is compatible with Moonboon's cradle, baby hammock, and twin baby hammock.

Benefits of Renting a Baby Hammock

  • Try it first

By renting, you can try the baby hammock in your home environment and see if it suits your child and your daily life. You may discover that it helps your baby settle down more quickly or sleep longer. Renting gives you the opportunity to test the hammock without committing to a purchase, making the product choice both safer and more flexible.

  • Cost-effective

A baby hammock is typically used only during the first few months, until your baby starts sitting, kneeling, or standing. By renting, you can use the hammock for as long as it’s needed and easily return it when your baby has outgrown it. You only pay for the time you use it, avoiding both high upfront costs and the hassle of reselling. A practical and cost-effective solution for families with young children!

  • Travel-friendly

The baby hammock can easily be disassembled and packed back into the bag it was delivered in, making it perfect for travel with your little one. Whether you're visiting family, going on a weekend getaway, or traveling abroad, the hammock can go with you and provide your baby with a familiar and secure place to sleep. Just remember to check the power outlet at your destination and pack an adapter kit if needed – that way, you can enjoy better sleep no matter where you are.

Can a White Noise Machine Improve My Baby’s Sleep?

White noise can be an excellent tool if your baby tends to fall asleep more easily in noisy environments than during regular naps or bedtime. Newborns are used to being surrounded by sounds, so a completely silent environment may have the opposite effect of what you expect at bedtime.

A white noise machine can enhance your baby's sleep environment by providing sounds with a calming effect. The womb sound, which mimics the mother's heartbeat, reminds the baby of their time in the womb—a place where they felt safe and secure, which is essential for good sleep. Additionally, the speaker helps block out surrounding noises that might disturb your baby’s sleep.

When Should I Use a Hammock Stiffener?

The baby hammock is designed to fit snugly around your baby for comfort, but as your baby grows, the space may become cramped. To provide additional support, we recommend using a hammock stiffener from around 3-4 months, depending on your baby's weight and size.

The stiffener can be placed under the mattress or used as a replacement for the mattress as your baby gets older. It helps flatten and extend the hammock's sleeping surface, providing enough space for your baby to relax and sleep comfortably. However, using the hammock stiffener is not a requirement.

FAQs

When and for how long can I use the cradle?

The cradle replaces the need for a bed or a floor-based cradle. Use it as your baby's favorite sleeping spot or as a complement to the baby hammock and baby sling.

The cradle is designed for infants and children from 3 kg. If you use the cradle after your baby has learned to roll over on their own, we recommend keeping the baby under constant supervision to ensure they don't fall out of the cradle.

How long can my baby sleep in the baby hammock?

Moonboon always follows the recommendations issued by health authorities. They have not issued any specific guidelines for the use of a baby hammock. In principle, your baby can sleep in the hammock for as long as necessary.

However, we recommend using the hammock as a supplement to a proper bed, as your baby should also be able to sleep on a firm mattress.

If you're unsure about your baby's sleep patterns and needs, we recommend consulting your doctor or healthcare provider.

Can I use a baby hammock for my newborn?

Yes, you can use the baby hammock for your newborn. Be sure to place it securely in the center of the mattress and test which rocking speed of the motor works best for your baby.

How many kilograms can the cradle hold?

The cradle can hold up to 12 kg with the standard spring and up to 20 kg with the spring+.

When and for how long can I use the twin baby hammock?

The twin baby hammock is designed for twins with a combined weight of 4-20 kg. The children can rest in the hammock together or separately, depending on their sleep habits, as it is also designed to support one child at a time.

Can my baby sleep in the baby hammock overnight?

You can safely use the baby hammock at night. However, it’s important not to let your baby sleep in the hammock without supervision.

We recommend using the hammock as a supplement, as your baby also needs the opportunity to sleep on a firm mattress. The hammock should never replace a proper crib.

We also do not recommend using the hammock once your baby can roll over. Additionally, make sure your baby can freely turn their head and that their head is not pressed against their chest.

What are the benefits of using a cradle for my baby?

Babies are accustomed to being held and rocked during the time they spent in their mother's womb, so this is a sensation they associate with feeling safe and relaxed—a prerequisite for good sleep. The gentle rocking motions of a cradle with a spring and a rocking function mimic this sensation, making the little ones feel cradled and held while being rocked to sleep with soft movements. This often means that babies find it easier to fall asleep, sleep with fewer or no interruptions, and wake up only when they are fully rested. In addition to helping your baby sleep more and better, a cradle also gives you as a parent the opportunity to have your hands free for other activities, such as playing with older children, enjoying some time for yourself, or simply taking a nap.
